{Stairs: Transforming Both Style and Purpose

Staircases are more than just a way of moving between levels; they are a integral part of a building’s design. From sleek designs to classic styles, stairs come in a range of options to fit any space. Whether you prioritise utility or design, there’s a stair design that can meet your needs.

{Why U-Shaped Staircases Are a Favoured Solution

These stairs are known by their two parallel flights and a 180-degree landing in the centre. This style is typically used in bigger homes or public buildings where height space is plentiful. The U-shape is practical, offering a luxurious aesthetic without taking up too much room. The landing is a functional feature that can also elevate the stairway design’s visual interest. U-shaped stairs exude sophistication and are often seen in luxurious or traditional interiors.

{Why Curved Stairs Are a Design Element

Curved stairs are characterised by their sophisticated, sweeping lines that embody elegance. With a softer curve, these stairs are more accessible than Spiral designs. These staircases are often used in luxurious homes, historic landmarks, or luxury hotels as a design highlight. Building Curved stairs is a labour-intensive process that typically results in a higher cost. The final product is a beautiful design feature that adds refinement to any environment.

{Floating Stairs: Enhancing Modern Style

Floating stairway designs, also known as cantilevered stairs, are a sleek and minimalist design that creates the appearance of treads "floating" in mid-air. The suspended effect is created by anchoring the treads to a wall, removing bulky supports. Floating staircases are often used in modern interiors to create a open feel. The absence of bulky supports ensures that other decorations, such as decor, can stand out. While impressive, Floating stairway designs require careful engineering to ensure safety.

{Spiral Stairway Designs: A Stylish Feature

A Spiral staircase consists of steps that wind around a helical axis in a helical fashion. This design is perfect for compact spaces, such as studios, where a traditional stair might not fit. The use of materials like wood allows for a range of styles in Spiral staircases. These staircases are space-saving but may be difficult for people with limited mobility or heavy loads. Their unique look makes them a popular option for improving the design beauty of a space.

{Bifurcated Stairway Designs: Transforming Architectural Style

This design of staircase is defined by its balanced design, commonly used in grand buildings. Bifurcated stairway designs are known for their primary flight that divides into two at a landing, typically bending in opposite directions. Bifurcated stairs are recognised for their dramatic and imposing presence, making them a popular choice for entryways. The design allows for a balanced look, often decorated with ornate banisters, chandeliers, or other decorative elements. While they require significant space and budget, Bifurcated stairway designs are a classic sign of elegance.

{Stairs: A Symbol of Architectural Innovation

Beyond their functionality, staircases are a example of architectural innovation and artistry. From sleek Floating stairs to elegant Curved designs, staircases can enhance any space into something extraordinary. Regardless of the design or function, staircases will always be a central feature in how we navigate and enjoy our environments.

Newcastle Council tackles dangerous staircases

More than 3,000 homes and 57 blocks of flats with potentially dangerous staircases have been identified by Newcastle City Council.

The ‘Ranch’ style staircase design, which features horizontal guarding, is classified as a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.

Concerns about the staircases were raised last year, with residents warning that children use them as ladders or try to climb between the horizontal boarding.
